Diploma in Nautical Science(One Year course) :

                                                              leads to obtain B.Sc (Nautical Science) - IGNOU & DGS collaboration

 

                                                       This 1 year course consists of 2 semesters and exams are conducted by

 

IGNOU (Indra Gandhi National Open University). After passing out the exams conducted by IGNOU, the cadets will be awarded DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE by IGNOU. The cadets will be joining on board vessel as a Trainee cadet. They will have to obtain 18 months sea service (Two yearstime will take to complete the 18 months sea experience). With this 18  months sea experience, they will undergo 4 months Second mate’s foundation course & they are eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams. After passing  second mate exams, they will be promoted as Second officer.

                                                        

This Diploma in Nautical Science course also leads to get B.Sc degree in  Nautical Science by IGNOU. During the first 18 months sea service, IGNOU is  conducting the Distance learning Programme(DLP) by giving the necessary study material. With further sea service & exams they will be promoted to  Chief Officer and then becoming Captain of the ship.

Admission for Diploma Nautical Science (DNS) - 1 Year Course

ELIGIBILITY

Pass in HSC / (10+2) From a Recognized Broad With 55% Average Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. (or)  

B.sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Electronics with  Physics as individual subject in one of the years with an average   of not  less than 55% marks in the Final Year. (or)

BE (or) B.Tech Degree from a college Recognized by AICTE

Compulsory: 50% in English Subject either in 10th or 12th Standard (or) Any Degree, Diploma level.

AGE LIMIT

   1. Up to 20 years For H.Sc / 10 +2 candidates

   2. Up to 22 years For B.Sc., candidates

   3. Up to 24 years For BE / B.Tech candidates

No Color Blindness, 6/6 Vision in each eye. No Eye Glasses permitted.
 
     
     
 

  Procedure for Booking of Seats, Important Dates for Admission & Joining

The interested candidates can book their seats by downloading the application form from the website (or) can be collected directly from the office.

The Candidate should fill up INGOU application form & IMA Academy  
Application Form.

To confirm your reservation of Seat, the application should be accompanied with the Reservation Fee of Rs.32,500/= by DD. The DD should be in favor of 'International Maritime Academy' payable at Chennai. (Seat Reservation Receipt will be sent immediately).

Last date to send the application form to reserve your seat is 24th May 2008 (For the batch commencing from 1st August ) & 30th September (For the batch commencing from 1st February).

Any extension of Date to submit late application form, Can be requested from the Office.

IGNOU will conduct the Entrance Exam (at Chennai & other places). The Date will be informed by the Academy.
IGNOU will announce the Selected candidates list.

After IGNOU confirmation, The students should report to the IMA-
Administrative office along with their original 12th Standard Mark sheet & Passing Certificate etc.(The Exact Reporting Date will be informed to the Students).

The Students are advised to verify themselves for their eye vision which is as per the eligibility criteria. Verification of Mark sheets & Medical Test will be conducted by the Academy.

The students, who are medically fit & found their eligibility marks correct, should pay the balance course fee before 20th July 2008 (For the batch commencing from 1st August ) (or) 20th Jan 2009(For the batch commencing from 1st February).

The students, who are selected by IGNOU, must come with their Personal items (List of items will be informed by the Academy) to IMA Hostel.
