Naval Architects :

Naval architect is a professional engineer who is responsible for the design, construction, ship building and repair of ships.

Naval Architecture is a widely job oriented area but the fact is that the number of institutions catering to this course of study is limited. As shipping is becoming more and more commercially important, more efficiently designed ships are the need of the hour .It is here that the chances for a new comer in the area of Naval Architecture/Ship Building look bright. Ships (tankers, cargo ships, passenger liners, ferries; warships), boats, submarines, high-speed crafts, Oil rigs, hover crafts and all structures related to ship building are to be designed by Naval Architects & Ship Building Engineers. They also work on the design and construction of marine installations such as off-shore drilling platforms.

On completion of B.Tech (NA & SB) Course, the graduates can further study the M.Tech (NA & SB) Courses, Ph.D & Research programmes.

Job Opportunities :

  • There are wide Job Opportunities at Present in the International Ship Construction Yards especially, at Korea, Japan & India. Etc.,
  • Naval architects have a broad range of employment opportunities worldwide.
  • The student after obtaining the degree can aspire for employment in Ship Building, Shipping, Ship Surveyor, Navy, Coastguard, Classification societies, Dockyards and Shipyards.
  • The services of Naval Architects are utilized by the ship yards, ship designing institutes, oil rig construction centers, and Naval and Oceanography centers.
  • They are working as a consultant - providing clients with engineering solutions, technical and commercial guidance, support and project management for concept design studies, new vessel constructions, refits and conversions; They are undertaking maritime research in universities and industry
  • They work as analyst of ships and marine structures, using the regulations of classification societies and intergovernmental organizations such as the International Maritime Organization.
  • Naval architects who specialize in construction may take responsibility for the management of a whole shipyard or for sections of it, such as planning, production or the complex operation of fitting out.
  • Naval architects may also occasionally teach courses in higher education institutions.
  • After Completion of NA & SB, they have the option to join as a Marine Engineer in the Merchant Ships by completing One Year Pre-Sea Graduate Mechanical Engineering Course (GME).

Admission for B.Tech ( Naval Architecture & Ship Building) - 4 year Course

 ELIGIBILITY

Pass in (10+2) with PCM Subjects.
PCM 50% marks for OC Category.
PCM 45% marks for BC Category.
PCM 40% marks for MBC Category.

 AGE LIMIT  Maximum 25 Yrs

Procedure for Booking of Seats, Important Dates for Admission & Joining

The interested candidates can book their seats by downloading the application form from the website (or) can be collected directly from the office.

2

To confirm your reservation, the application should be
accompanied with the Reservation Fee of Rs.25,000/= by DD.

3

The DD should be in favor of ' International Maritime Academy '
payable at Chennai.

4

Last date to send the application form is 30th July 2010.
Any extension of Date to submit late application form, Can
be requested from the Office.

The students must ensure themselves for the payment of course fee either by their own fund or bankers loan.

The students who reserved their seat should report the IMA-
Administrative office along with the passport size Photograph (Two), Original Mark sheet & Passing Certificate of 10th std & 12th std.  (The Reporting Date will be informed to the Students).

Verification of Mark sheets & Medical Test will be conducted at the Academy.

If the students, fail in the Medical test (which will be conducted at the Academy), will not be confirmed for their admission.

The students, who are medically fit & found their eligibility marks  correct, should pay the balance course fee before commencement of the course.

The students must come with their Personal items (List of items will
 be informed by the Academy) to IMA Hostel on 1st Aug 2010 & Course Commences on 1st Aug 2010.
